Fragments

26 May

A pair of battered dog tags, found inside a corporal’s notebook at my grandad’s house, led me to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and these two entries:

Corporal JAMES BLANK
1st/9th Bn., Durham Light Infantry
Died 16/9/1916, aged
27
Thiepval Memorial

Private WILLIAM BLANK
1st/6th Bn., Durham Light Infantry
Died 1/10/1916, aged
19
Thiepval Memorial

They were my great-great-uncles.

I’d like to go to that memorial, someday.
