Atlas Atlas Atlas

ATLAS.

Yeah, you know how I mentioned I’d started listening to Battles yesterday? It’s taking over my brain.

Funny and disturbing side note: The lyrics to Atlas are vocoded beyond all intelligibility (if that wasn’t a word, it is now) and for a long time nobody knew what the hell the singer was going on about. When the band finally released the words of  the chorus to music magazines, they read:

People won’t be people when they hear this sound / That’s been glowing in the dark at the edge of town / People won’t be people no the people won’t be people when they hear this sound / Won’t you show me what begins at the edge of town

When you listen to the song again, the words fit perfectly to the point that you can’t understand why you didn’t recognise them in the first place. Unfortunately, some bright spark on Youtube pointed out that the lyrics also sound very like this murderous dirge:

Beat a woman, beat a woman / Hit her, stab her / Throw her in the corner, forget her forever / Beat a woman, beat a woman / Beat a woman, beat a woman / Hit her, stab her / Show her what you’re made of / Forever and after

… Yeah. The song is bizarre enough that you can really imagine the alternate lyrics running incessantly through the mind of some deranged serial killer. Oh, did I mention that the song is stuck in my head and has been for the past three days? Maybe it’s best if I lock myself in a cupboard for a while.
